ZBrush is a digital sculpting tool that combines 3D/2.5D modeling, texturing and painting. It uses a proprietary "pixol" technology (see below) which stores lighting, color, material, and depth information for all objects on the screen. The main difference between ZBrush and more traditional modeling packages is that it is more akin to sculpting.

ZBrush is used as a digital sculpting tool to create high-resolution models (up to millions of polygons, and theoretically unlimited) for use in movies, games, and animations. It is used by companies ranging from ILM to Electronic Arts. ZBrush uses dynamic levels of resolution to allow sculptors to make global or local changes to their models. ZBrush is most known for being able to sculpt medium to high frequency details that were traditionally painted in bump maps. The resulting mesh details can then be exported as normal maps to be used on a low poly version of that same model. They can also be exported as a displacement map, although in that case the lower poly version generally requires more resolution. Or, once completed, the 3D model can be projected to the background, becoming a 2.5D image (upon which further effects can be applied). Work can then begin on another 3D model which can be used in the same scene. This feature lets users work with extremely complicated scenes without heavy processor overhead.

Scripts that solves the problem with FL 8

What this script does is exports the systems current time to a temp file on C:, sets the date to March 3rd, 2008, runs FL.exe then returns the date back to the current date on your system by importing value from the exported file.

Now just create a shortcut on the desktop to this BAT file or put it on the desktop and there ya have it.

::NOTE::

Ensure your Installation directory to FL.EXE is correct in the script, if not, just modify it.

Zero X's Beatslicer v1.2

Zero X's BeatSlicer takes the trouble out of time changes and the aggravation out of alterations. It does, essentially, exactly what it says on the tin...slices beats. Or as developer Peter Segerdahl describes it "A major software with all sorts of tools for easy manipulating rhythmic loops/grooves" It does so, however, in a way which has changed the way that I use samples in my music.

So, let's check it out in more detail...

Firstly, BeatSlicer can be used as a stand alone application with which you can open up from your start menu and tinker with at will, or, even cooler, as a tool within FL Studio (formerly known as FruityLoops), allowing you to copy parts back and forwards between the apps. Simply go to FL Studio's 'import' then 'import beat to slice' option in the file menu, and voila, you're ready to BeatSlice! Lastly, BeatSlicer also easily communicates with FL Studio's Fruity Slicer plugin, making a seamless integration between the two applications.

Upon opening BeatSlicer you're presented with an image representing the beats of the loop. Its big, its clear, and you can't miss it - perfect for the fine tuning and fiddling that us musicians love to do. Above that, is the toolbars, which we'll come to later. But first, back to that beat.

By the time you can see the beat, BeatSlicer will already have split it into slices where the peaks in sound occur and figured out the BPM of the loop, to three decimal places. If you feel its not split the beat down far enough, you can adjust its sensitivity so it pick up more subtle beats, or slice by hand to suit your needs. However, having used BeatSlicer for almost a year now on a regular basis I've never had to do this - unless I've been making something weird and wanted to intentionally confuse it. But hey, it copes with that too.

You will now be able to click on, and edit a single segment; move them around, delete or repeat and shuffle to your heart's content. The basics are as simple as they sound. To delete a part, select and press delete…gone. To copy, select copy, then paste, just like any other copy and paste function youd use anywhere else on your windows machine. Want to move a piece? Click and drag baby! As simple as that.

But BeatSlicers talents aren't limited to simply moving parts around...the 'Process' menu allows normalization of either single beats, or the loop as a whole to a set level ( 0 db by default, but whatever you choose), and has options to silence, fade in or fade out again either a single slice or the whole loop.

The three toolbars show, from bottom to top, information about the beat and sensitivity settings, zoom and fit to screen settings and standard save/load settings on the top, as well as the play, stop fast forward bits. Well laid out, intuitive and hassle free, keeping in with the spirit of the app. It does everything easily, smoothly and well, without having to spend months poring over the manual.

Once youre happy with your loop, you can export .wavs of the individual parts on their own, slice markers (so you can insert different samples into the same groove, in FL Studio, for example), or both. Exporting both will allow you to open the beat as is in another compatible app and incorporate into your creations as you see fit.

The FM technology

...One of the ‘warmest’, crisp, and clear Frequency Modulation engines in the world, owes its sound to the precise calculation of the digital signal. Due to high-resolution DSP processing, it produces sound with an extremely low noise threshold; something that most FM engines cannot offer. The Toxic III sound was built from the ground up, via our own unique mathematical calculations and analog-modeling techniques.

The Oscillators

...Completely alias-free, and well tuned for all sampling rates, they produce a rich, "fat" sound all across the spectrum. Due to the high quality of the anti-aliasing process, users will not encounter the shredding noise on high frequencies that has plagued FM synthesis in the past. Furthermore, the oscillators are calculated at extremely high speeds, keeping your CPU usage to a minimum. Toxic III’s low CPU consumption affords the user plenty of room for external processing and running multiple instances. The oscillators also come equipped with Maxx Claster’s own powerful spectrum analysis technology. This allows the user to create his or her own waveforms, via the simple process of loading a WAV or AIFF format sound file. All of these features make the oscillators very flexible, and allow for the use of both synthetic and acoustic waveforms within Toxic III. The Effects

...Made to assure high quality and flexibility is built into the synthesizer its self, Toxic III aims to reduce the need for external processing altogether! The effect modules are designed to give the user access to several types of effects, from aggressive, tube-like distortion, to warm stereo delay, reverb, flanger, and phaser effects. With our own pro-quality tape delay emulation, based on non-fixed delay buffer sizes, instead of the usual methods incorporated within digital delays, our delay lines give you warm sound, with ”true“ feedback and modulation. Lastly, the signal chain features an analog-modeled, parametric equalizer to further shape your sound. The Filter

...Maxx Claster's own analog-modeled, multimode filter is reminiscent of a certain silver box of old. Garnishing a warm, resonant Low-Pass mode, a smooth Band-Pass setting, and a creamy High-Pass mode, Toxic III gives a wealth of control over tone. The filter is further enhanced by modulation via a dedicated envelope generator and low frequency oscillator, as well as responding to velocity information and keyboard tracking. These features allow for extreme sound shaping, as well as subtle nuances attributed to dynamic playing.

The Sequencer

...Powerful, yet simple, the sequencer offers a total of 64 steps, which can be divided into two independent, 32 step modules to allow double-polyphonic patterns. With this package installed, you shouldn't need to install any other codec or filter Codecs have always been a big problem for the computer users.
That's because there has never been a 100% viable working solution available for the average computer user.
There are several good codec package solutions out there, but none of them did everything I wanted. I was always in need of a tweak, adjustment, or even a reinstallation just to get the codecs I needed/wanted and most of the time, the file still didn't play.
I've never claimed to be a media guru. My media experience is to doubleclick a file I downloaded and hope that it plays.
What I do know is how to package software. So I decided to package some codecs and share them with the rest of the world.
With this package all possible conflicts are already dealt with.
Many user suggested default settings are implemented.
It does not contain a media player and it doesn't associates filetypes.
With this package installed you will be able to use any media player, limited only by the players' capabilities, to play DVD's, movies and video clips of almost any filetype.
Streaming video is supported in all popular web browsers.
By default you won't need to make any adjustments to enjoy a variety of media content immediately.
Users have the ability to choose what is installed using the public redistributable or after an unattended install, you can select to remove specific portions without removing the entire package.
Future releases will recognize previous releases and are capable of performing upgrade installations.

The new version, called Trillian Astra, has a preview site and video now available that Jordan Running pointed us to first. Trillian lets users use one application to IM with people on a number of other IM systems.

This new version is going to see some big changes in a program with a large number of loyal users. The following are just a few of the newer things that the company says are coming in the newest version of the software. Trillian is for Windows only. Astra is currently in private alpha, we’re just excited to cover this first preview.

DAEMON Tools is a virtual cd/dvd-rom emulator and is able to emulate nearly all known copy protections on the market today.
